"The Map: Segregated Syracuse... Still" by Matt Mulcahy
In early 2021, CNY Central news anchor and blogger Matt Mulcahy discovered a 1919 map of Syracuse. The Map is the first known city sanctioned document associating “NEGRO” with redlining. It is the start of a century of government policy that insured racial segregation in Syracuse and Onondaga County and is a precursor to the Home Owners Loan Corporation Maps of 1934. This multi-media blog post from Mulcahy describes what he found and its implications.

My NASA Data
NASA offers petabytes of global Earth science data collected from satellites but accessing these data in a traditional (or virtual) science classroom can be tricky. Since 2004, My NASA Data has supported students and teachers of grades 3-12 in analyzing and interpreting NASA mission data. Published by the United States Department of Agriculture, this database has images, characteristics, and distribution information for plants in the U.S. and its territories are included in this database. Searching is made easy through a variety of options and includes both scientific and common names.
PubMed
PubMed® comprises more than 36 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites. Although Westhill does subscribe to this database, there are several free articles that are available.
